Kyle Dine Shortlisted for Free From Hero Award
I’m still in disbelief to hear that I’m shortlisted for the Free From Hero Award in the UK. What a world-class group of difference makers – I’m truly honoured to be considered amongst them.
This really means so much to me!
When I launched Equal Eats back in April of 2020 (I know…awful timing), I knew we weren’t going to be able to help people travel anytime soon due to the pandemic.
My hometown’s business hub (Kingston 🇨🇦) offered grants to help small businesses survive during this time. I remember going through so many options of what I would spend the grant on if I was selected. Regular business expenses from overhead, tech, etc crossed my mind. But I had this idea that wouldn’t stop tugging at me: bring Equal Eats to the U.K. Luckily, the grantors agreed! 🎉 🇬🇧
I was flying blind trying to “set up shop” in a new country (virtually) with a professional plastic card printer in tow! I’m forever grateful to fellow nominee Clare Hussein who helped us receive the printer and get our supplies ready.
It’s now found a permanent home in our Print & Ship Center in Southampton with Lisa Bolton who is a hero in her own right.
We’re thrilled to serve the U.K. free from community, and I’m truly grateful to be considered for such an honour. 🙏
Kyle
